Privacy Policy

Overview

Visual Garden ("we", "us") operates a visual inspiration platform. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, your rights, and your choices.

Data we collect

  • Account data: email address, name, authentication identifiers (via Supabase Auth), and terms acceptance timestamp.
  • Content you upload or save: images, board names, prompts, descriptions, source URLs, and metadata associated with your library.
  • Usage data: basic product analytics (pages visited, feature usage) when you consent to analytics cookies.
  • Onboarding progress: stored locally and synced to your account to guide setup.
  • Reports: if you report content, we store the report details and your user ID.

How we use data

We use your data to provide the service: storing your library, running AI generation and analysis (via third-party providers), displaying public boards in Explore, moderating reported content, and communicating about your account.

Legal bases (EEA/UK)

Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Contract: processing needed to provide the service you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests: security, fraud prevention, product improvement (analytics, with consent where required), and moderation.
  • Consent: analytics cookies and optional processing where we ask for your consent.
  • Legal obligation: where we must comply with law.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to, or port your personal data. You can:

  • Download your data from Settings (account export).
  • Delete your account from Settings.
  • Contact us to exercise other rights.

We respond to requests within 30 days. Email hello@visualgarden.com.

Subprocessors

We use the following categories of service providers:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, file storage (US/EU regions per project config).
  • Cloudinary — image hosting and optimization.
  • fal.ai — AI image generation when you use Mix, Remix, or Shuffle.
  • OpenAI — image captions, board style analysis, and content moderation checks.
  • Vercel — application hosting and privacy-friendly web analytics (cookieless; no cross-site tracking and no advertising use).
  • Pinterest — public board/pin metadata when you import from Pinterest (we store pin IDs and source URLs).

International transfers

Your data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. We use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) where required by law.

Public content & default visibility

New boards are private by default. A private board is visible only to you. Nothing you collect leaves your account unless you change a board's visibility yourself.

When you make a board public, two things happen together: it becomes discoverable by other signed-in Visual Garden users in Explore, and it gets a public web page that anyone can open without an account and that search engines and AI search crawlers may index and quote.

From board settings you choose what that page contains. The choice is yours to change at any time:

  • Generated images and my uploads — the default when you make a board public. This publishes the files you uploaded yourself as well as the images you generated. Only choose it for images you hold the rights to share publicly; a photograph of a person who has not agreed to it does not belong on a public page.
  • Generated images only — the images you generated get public pages, and every file you uploaded stays off the open web.
  • Not in search — the board stays in Explore for signed-in users, with no public page at all.

Imported and saved images are published under that option. Earlier versions of this policy said they never were. That changed deliberately: a board is a curation, and one with parts missing is not the thing its owner assembled. It does mean the choice carries more weight than it used to — most of what people collect originates elsewhere, and publishing a board is a claim that you may share what is on it.

If you would rather not make that claim, Generated images only publishes nothing but the images the model made for you, and Not in search publishes nothing at all. Either remains available at any time.

If you believe something published here infringes your rights, contact us at hello@visualgarden.com and we will withdraw the page.

You can make a board private again at any time from board settings. Doing so removes the board's public page, and withdraws the public page of every image on it — those addresses stop resolving rather than quietly staying up. We ask search engines to drop the page, but we cannot control how quickly each one recrawls, and copies may persist in third-party caches, archives, or AI training sets that were collected while the board was public. If you need a page removed urgently, contact us at hello@visualgarden.com and we will submit removal requests on your behalf.

Boards that were already public before this policy took effect stay in Explore exactly as they were. None of them are published to the open web until their owner picks a search scope.

Uploaded files are stored in cloud storage; delivery URLs may be accessible when content is public.

AI processing

When you upload, import, or generate content, we may send images and prompts to third-party AI providers:

  • OpenAI — automatic image descriptions on upload/import (unless excluded), and board style analysis from reference images.
  • fal.ai — image generation when you run Mix, Remix, or Shuffle with selected sources.

Board style learning is separate from generation. You can exclude individual elements from board style learning via Settings on an image. Excluded elements are not used to build your board's style profile or automatic shuffle references, but may still be sent to AI providers if you select them for generation or if we create searchable descriptions on import (unless excluded).

We do not sell your personal data.

Pinterest import

When you import from Pinterest, you represent that you have the right to use that content. We store pin identifiers and source URLs for attribution and deduplication. Re-importing syncs new pins only.

Browser extension

The Visual Garden Clipper is an optional browser extension for saving images from any web page. It runs only in your browser and is not required to use Visual Garden.

  • What it accesses: to find images you can save, it reads image addresses and dimensions on pages you visit. It does this on any site, because inspiration lives anywhere — but it looks only for images. It does not read page text, form fields, passwords, or your browsing history.
  • What it sends us: only when you choose to save an image. At that moment it sends the image address, the address and title of the page it came from (for attribution), and your chosen board. Nothing is transmitted while you merely browse.
  • What it stores on your device: a sign-in token for your account, your email address and profile picture for display, and your hover-to-save preference. These stay in the browser's extension storage and are cleared when you log out from the extension.
  • What it never does: it does not track the pages you visit, build a browsing profile, inject advertising, or sell or share data with third parties. Saved images are handled exactly like any other image in your library, as described above.

Children

Visual Garden is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. Contact us if you believe a child has provided data.

Retention & deletion

We retain your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your content and account data from our primary systems, including stored images. Backup copies may persist for up to 30 days before automatic purge.

Cookies & analytics

We use essential cookies for authentication sessions. For analytics we use Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookies, stores no identifier, and does not track you across other sites — so it runs without asking you to accept anything. You can switch it off at any time using “Opt out of analytics” in the notice at the bottom of the page; that choice is remembered in your browser’s local storage.
